Sports Center Saturday-Dizzy Dean, Satchel Paige...and Dad??

During WWII, my dad played baseball for the Kittyhawks at Wright Field in Ohio.  In 1945 he pitched in an exhibition game with Dizzy Dean against Satchel Paige and the Cincinnati Giants.  He's the player in the center in the photo.  (An aside---one of my favorite quotes is from Satchel Paige: "Don't look back. Something might be gaining on you.")

  1. There was a piece on PBS's History Detectives about Dizzy Dean and Satchel Paige. The story took the HD team to Seattle, Washington. http://www.pbs.org/opb/historydetectives/investigations/402_baseball.html
That is so cool that your Dad played with them!

  2. Thanks for letting me know about this--funny & interesting that it was about this very subject. I just sent PBS a link to this post. The episode ran several years ago, but I didn't find anything that reported the outcome of their research.
